Week 1 - Social Media

My entrepreneurial idea is a technological improvement for the game of football.  There is a lot of controversy over the field of play, what is out of bounds, and determining with the naked eye whether a player is in or out on close plays.  Imagine the field of play as a large grid, with the sidelines and endzones lined up with GPS precision, and now put GPS chips in every shoe in the NFL, and the guesswork is essentially eliminated, as well as human error, on close plays down the sideline.

Most major advocates of the NFL are also major advocates of the social media world; Facebook, Twitter, etc.  Social media could be used as a source of minimal paid advertisement, but a major source of free publicity among hundreds of millions of viewers.

Social media could carry this movement from a prototype to the beginning of a new generation of the sport of football. Entire games could be watched digitally via GPS satellite. The new system could prove controversial, thus giving the NFL the positive publicity that sells out stadiums for every game and allows merchandise to fly off the shelves.

  1. Given the recent controversy over the SU game last weekend, i could see a lot of teams and the league being interested in a technology like this. You might want to look beyond GPS and see if there is anything that could be done with RFID chips that might make it less expensive. Keep up the good work.

  2. This technology is very necessary because there have been a lot of controversy in sports due to human errors. Therefore with the aid of this technology, human errors would be reduced not only in football but in sports like swimming and soccer as well.

  3. I definitely agree with your proposal. This is a crucial aspect to the game that has been talked about over and over again. I like how you tied in the aspect of how you envision games being watched digitally. Also, the need for better technology is a necessary one, especially in close games. How many times have we seen many games end up in a close play, usually being based on the judgment of a wrong call? Your idea is extremely important in today's sports world.
